This is a beautiful hand-built log cabin. It is built of large cottonwood logs originating from the banks of the Big Hole river 20 miles from Silver Star. The logs are flattened on two sides with a chainsaw, and dove-tail notches are used on the corners to fit the logs in place. This cabin was hand built by the owner, Chip Ashcraft, who is a custom log cabin builder.This cabin features a common sleeping area on the second floor with 1 king bed, 2 queen beds, and a single bed.The cabin is located 400 feet off the county road nestled in a patch of trees, providing a very peaceful and private setting. The closest neighbors are deer and the occasional moose. It is within 5 minutes walking distance of Silver Star fishing access site on the Jefferson river, just downstream from the famous Big Hole, Beaverhead, and Ruby Rivers. It is about an hour's drive to the Madison river. Next to the covered lanai is a large deck with a large, rectangular pool and separate hot tub.We live in an eclectic neighborhood, mostly smaller houses neatly landscaped, one unsightly house, and one millionaire house . From our house you can't see any neighbors because of the privacy walls and landscaping, but if you walk out on the pool deck you can see the millionaire's house.Our pool is 17' by 34' and just under 5 feet deep with handicapped steps at one end leading to the hot tub and bedrooms. It's solar heated, but on cloudy days can be cool. Pool temperatures range from 74 on a cold day to 86 on a really hot, sunny day, especially in August and September. I swim every morning even in winter when it goes down to 72.Enjoy the fishing boat activities on the sea below. Look up the coast at the beautiful Kealakekua Bay. Watch the saffron finches and tropical Java sparrows at the bird feeders and listen to the sounds of the Hawaiian doves. Enjoy our 3 bedrooms, carpeted, with 2 king size beds and one double bed, each equipped with dressers and closets. Each bedroom has sliding glass doors that open onto pool deck. The master bedroom has 2 closets and a regular door to hallway, while the other two bedrooms have sliding Japanese soji doors. Wood finishing and kitchen counters and cabinets are beautiful, old growth fir from Vancouver Island, British Columbia.Our large main bathroom has a shower big enough to share or to contain a wheelchair, aqua tile floor, and long counter. The large living room has sliding glass doors on both sides to allow the breezes through. The house retains a perfect temperature all day, no fans or air conditioning needed, but on an exceptionally hot day there are ceiling fans in every room. During the cooler evenings we sometimes close the sliding doors on the mountain side. From the bedrooms or the living room you can listen to the garden fountain and watch the birds take baths. There are 55 Macademia nut trees on the 3 acres which is a small, older lava flow. We also have mango trees and citrus. A nut cracker is provided on one of the lanai tables. The large table seats six and we eat dinner out there while watching the sunsets. Our pool is long enough for lap swimming, but wide enough for kids to play in. It is heated with a solar heating system. You can walk out of the house and jump right into the pool. Bathing suits are optional because there is a privacy wall from the neighbors who are far enough away that they couldn't see what you have on anyway.

The property slopes gently to the lake with a firepit for summer, fall and winter cookouts, a large sand beach, large dock and water craft (rowboat, canoe, paddleboat). A dockside shed provides storage for lifejackets, paddles, water toys etc.The year round cottage is on a township road with easy access to HWY 118, Port Carling (3 km), several golf courses, hiking, cross-country and snowmobile trails. Brandy Lake is great for fishing, too! Our community offers quaint shops, dining, local food, as well as music, theatre, festivals, tourist attractions, steamship cruises and Santa\'s Village (in summer season) all nearby.
